Abstract

Reading is a complex activity which focuses on understanding written texts. It is not simple since reading involves both recognizing word and comprehending the meaning lies within the text. Generally a reader would use their prior knowledge grammatical and vocabulary storage to bridge them to understand a written text. While this is a sophisticated process for adults let alone for teenage or young learners, EFL teachers should put more concern towards their students difficulties. Unlike adults, teenagers or young learners are preety immature that they barely acquire the awareness nor have the patient to set a goal in learning. Therefore, it is highly recommended for teachers to understand the basic principles of teaching reading and strategies to evaluate the result as well as the importance of intergrating reading with other skills.
