SOME FACTORS OF REGISTERS PREFERENCE BY STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITAS BINA DARMA PALEMBANG

Abstract

Spoken language will always be interesting and attracting to discuss. It has many dimensions which can be investigated into detail. This study investigated some factors of registers preference by the students of Universitas Bina Darma. The samples were taken from Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia students, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan who are taking their English subject at English Language Centre Universitas Bina Darma. They were twenty nine students – three male and twenty six female. The data were taken from questionnaire. It was found that there are six factors which contribute to the students’ registers preference. They are age, situation, addressee, social status, gender/sex, and topic.
